from summer to winter

When I arrived to Weimar, the summer was at its best. The temperature climbed over 30 Celsius degrees, people were enjoying the warmth in parks and terraces. I had not expected anything like that, after all we arrived in September when it really startrd to get chilly in Finland.

The next following months I lived through the Autumn and appear of the beautiful colors in the nature before eventually fading and dying. After a certain time the amount of the sunlight decreased, and days grew shorter. This time has a specific name in Finnish, which is ‘kaamos’. It means the period of darkness when the sun does not rise over the horizon, but mentally it also links to the feeling of depression, loneliness and hopelessness. In Weimar it did not struck as hard as in Finland, since everything is still new and exciting in some ways. Maybe eventually the feeling of being part of this foreign society managed to beat the typical sensation of ‘kaamos’, that hits me annually. That and gluhwein from the Weinachtsmarkt.
